Read : Before you head to Paris

‘These modern Parisiennes will take you on a first date, to a party and through a hangover’
Even on first look, the cover exudes an air of coolness that initially makes me jealous of the Paris woman: Monochrome (with an unrefined appeal), cup of coffee and lit vogue in hand, with a blunt fringe and a style that’s a little rough around the edges.

Written by four true Parisienne women, 'How To Be Parisian – Wherever You Are' offers a refreshing, and somewhat blunt insight into the life of the modern Paris woman. Divided into sections focused on romance, fashion, food, and the like, this book acts almost as a confessional – four women honestly exposing their undeniable cool girl, allusive, enchanting, yet soft and somewhat old school romantic character, while having a giggle at their self proclaimed snobbish and hard to please attitude.

For a book that I initially judged as a black and white how to, as title would suggest, I was pleasantly surprised and charmed by the wit of these women; I loved their ability to share their way of life, bad habits and all.  The Women that are often deemed cold and introverted, opened up to reveal a flirtatious, fun and colourful side to the overly cliched allure of the Parisienne socialite.
Even the order of the book exude her erratic free spirit - one moment you are falling for playing her hard to get sexiness, then she's spilling the beans on her recipe for her classic snack of choice (crepes, of course). She lives for herself, aloof and busy, but loves the attention of a man. Kiss her, and you'll be smitten. I wish there was a clearer message of how to master her sense of fashion - but I think its a born and bred situation: this cannot be taught.

As a gift, its lovely. Ideal for a coffee table book lover, that likes an easy read. Its the sort of book you could pick up or leave at any point and not get lost. If the Parisienne woman, or city itself entice you, then this little number is definitely worth a flick through.  The price seems a little steep, but the hard back and semi-glossy pages make it value for money - plus, its a small slice of home decor too.
